The Vertical Facelift
By Jason B. Diamond M.D., F.A.C.S. | August 7, 2008
The vertical facelift is a lift that requires a very extensive skin elevation such that the underlying smas layer can be lifted in a direct vertical vector (toward the lower eyelid) instead of a back and up direction like the deep plane facelift.
Benefits of the Vertical Facelift
The benefits of the vertical facelift procedure is that it is the most effective way to correct the jowls and the marionette lines in a powerful way. This also gives a very nice result however it can be associated with a much longer healing period then other types of facelifts with more of a chance of postoperative fluid collections, or irregularities that can take up to 6 weeks to resolve.
I usually recommend the vertical facelift for those people who have unfavorable anatomy such as those with fuller faces, heavy jowls or severe marionette lines because I know that the other styles of face-lifting will have little power to correct these problems. This is the second most common type of facelift that I perform.
