The Deep Plane Facelift or High Smas Facelift
By Jason B. Diamond M.D., F.A.C.S. | August 5, 2008
The Deep Plane facelift or High Smas facelift is essentially a facelift that creates a backward and upward lift (towards the top of the ear) by tightening the smas (which is the deeper layer of tissue beneath the skin).
This facelift is among the most sophisticated and advanced facelift techniques available and requires a high level of expertise to perform. This is the most common type of facelift procedure that I perform.
Benefits of Deep Plane Facelift
The benefit of this procedure is that it gives a very conservative and natural result with very fast healing times and with very little risk of post operative irregularities or fluid collections. Furthermore, this technique has the ability to elevate the cheek or midface in a way that no other facelift is capable of.
The main limitation of this procedure is in its ability to correct the jowls or marionette lines in a significant way.
This procedure places all of the tension on the smas layer so that there is no pulled look to the skin and no tension on the skin so that the scars should be imperceptible.
The Deep Plane Facelift technique is perfect those people who are looking for a nice natural conservative rejuvenation to their face and neck with minimal downtime, who are not plagued with excess jowls or severe marionette lines.
